Who holds the power Dom or Submissive?
Before I get started let's talk about power exchange. In power exchange, one person is in control and the other submits to that control. It could be something that fluctuates and evolves over time.
Some people think the Dominant holds the power especially those not into bdsm, but nothing could be further from the truth. A submissive is not a doormat to be walked on, and they are not here to just say yes and be used like a toy.
The submissive chooses to submit she chooses to consent. In anything consent is key without consent the Dom is left without the ability to act. This gives the submissive the power in the relationship. The submissive can chose to take away that power as well. Does this make the submissive bad or fake? It does not. Taking away consent is the right any submissive has and consent can be taken away for any number of reasons from the Dominant violating the trust to the submissive feeling neglected and even for safety reasons.
Let's think for a second. A submissive has the power to say no and ultimately can stop any act at anytime. Take punishment for example if a submissive says the safe word the Domminate must stop at that point. If the dominant fails to stop after consent is withdrawn it becomes abuse.
When the dynamic starts the Domminate and submissive both negotiate the relationship the submissive has the power here as well. During this time the submissive states their limits. The submissive holds the power to say no to any part they do not feel comfortable with or want.
There are times the submissive gives Total power exchange. Total power exchange (TPE) is a relationship dynamic that occurs in a BDSM relationship where the dominant partner has total power over the submissive to a predetermined extension. Total power exchanange can include anything from having full power over medical or having total power over everything period.
Even with a total power exchange the submissive still holds the power to revoke consent.
Ultimately the Domminate only recieves as much power as the submissive wants to give at any point, but as time goes by the submissive may give up more power to the Dom just as they can give it they can take it away.
While the Dom does hold the power to act and the power to consent in the relationship ultimately it's the submissive who weilds the power to say no.
